Is July 2nd actually Independence Day?

Did you know that July 2nd was actually the day the colonies declared independence from Britain?
On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution submitted by delegate Richard Henry Lee of Virginia, declaring “That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.”
They then spent the next two days drafting a document which explained what this freedom meant...the Declaration of Independence.
 
Does that mean that July 2nd is actually Independence Day? What do you think?
